Eccence of Luxury

When you hear the words 'luxury home,'  what comes to mind? I think of large 3 story colonials with imposing pillars framing an expansive front porch (think White House), or a Floridian style mansion with tile roofs and floor to ceiling windows accented by beautiful designer fountains. (whew! now i'm out of breath ;-)

 ...BUT I'M WRONG-ish...

You see, luxury isn't a double digit number of bedrooms and bathrooms. Nor is  it  measured in square feet? What I'm getting at is this: size does not equal luxury. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a luxury is "something adding to pleasure or comfort but not absolutely necessary." To prove that small size and luxury are not mutual exclusive, I present to you, pictures of grandness, on a small scale.

This luxury home is only 1600 sq/ft, but it has everything you need plus a fresh neo-industrial designe theme.

Meal and board -- Courtesy of the State and Federal Government

 According to Bureau
of Justice Statistics, in 2008 there where more than 1.6 million people for whom 'home' was a cell inside a state or federal prison. The need to keep people within the confines of a prison have lead to some truly remarkable architectural designs. Today we look at the very interesting  Justizzentrum Leoben Complex - Styria, Austria.

Can you say 5 stars?! Everything from the service to the building is first rate. This five star prison even includes a gym, indoor court and every cell comes with its own flat-screen television. But don't go rob a bank just yet. The prison houses only 205 prisoners and is fully booked. Because of the beautiful construction and landscaping, the prison actually brings property values up. The prison focuses on rehabilitation and re-integration.

The Monster In Your Basment

Today we take a look at why it is so important to maintain that thing called a water heater. If you live in an apartment with a central water system, then your off the hook on this one. So here is a reminder of why it is a good idea to replace old water heaters after 10-12 years of service. Many cost under $500, allot less than the deductible on most home insurance policy, if your covered at all. If you hear popping, groaning, or banging noises from your water heater, Its time to go shopping.

So I leave you with this cautionary tale from the Mythbusters...
